Courage Marked [Dog Tags]

Written by Elizabeth York  (May 2022)
Edited/Arranged by Rebecca Moore, with permission

By these marks, my allegiance.
Long since gone is the time to turn back,
For by these marks, my allegiance.

No promise of survival — I go in, and may never come out.
The war against sin and Hell is to blame,
Yet by these marks, I will never be the same.

That holy banner of my God, I raise high as I march into the fray.
No man, beast, or devil, shall I fear, for I have the Lord on my side!

These marks I wear, proclaim my allegiance to my God and King –
The only thing that sets me apart from this sinful race.
For by God’s strength I hold my head up high,
Gazing into the beautiful eyes of my Lord.

This world one day will melt away, but one thing is clear –
The mission decreed by the King: “Tell the world they could be free!
Receive My Son’s gift, He gave so willingly.”

I bear these marks boldly, with all my might,
Through the day and the night, the frights of time and the unknown.
For not of my own doing, but by God’s grace, my doom has been undone!

My tags, stamped by God’s glorious grace,
My being, peculiar in this dark place,
My pace, set by Christ for what I must do.
For these, marks my allegiance.
